Marion Public Health has been awarded a grant from the Ohio Department of Health for a program entitled “Creating Healthy Communities.” The grant’s objectives center on exploring policy, systems and environmental changes to prevent chronic disease. Grantees must address chronic disease (heart disease, diabetes, cancer, chronic respiratory disease and stoke) using three risk factors (obesity, lack of physical activity and tobacco use) in four settings (schools, workplaces, healthcare and community). The grant also requires the formulation of a health coalition with members from all four settings.

Everyone has a stake in the health of our community and the best way to tackle the work ahead of us is to join together as we investigate and chip away at the root causes of chronic disease and preventable illness in our community.
